Dominic Cruz (Adrian Lindayag) is not just a closeted gay student of an all-boys catholic school; he is also a skeptic.
When one of his best friends, Timmy(John Leinard Ramos), invited him to visit a fortune teller, he grudgingly agrees. Dominic is not a believer in this kind of practice. To him, fortune telling is probably a scam because the future is the future. Whatever is stored for the days to come will eventually happen. And no one will be able to predict what it is.
But Baby R is different, though. She has a 99.5% accuracy rate with her predictions. Besides, fortune-tellers cannot predict the future. They only give their customers guides. Everything that follows is up to them.
Baby R sees love in the future for Dominic. However, there is an uncertainty that surrounds it.
Fast forward a week later. In a retreat called “Journey with the Lord”, Dominic met Luke. The captain of the basketball team of their school and a firm believer of destiny. His reason why he joined the retreat is simple. He wants to escape and move on from his recent break up with Karen (Rissey Reyes).
Dominic understands where Luke is coming from, even if he never experienced romantic break-ups before. He knows what it feels like to look for an escape.
Eventually, the two bonded with the little similarities and huge differences they have. As they formed an unlikely friendship, Dominic starts to believe that Baby R might be right with her predictions. Love is in his future. That is until the uncertainty comes. Karen returns to get back with Luke.
“The Boy Foretold by the Stars” is directed by Dolly Dulu. It is the first-ever BL (Boys Love) movie in the Philippines.
The rise of BL in the country introduces the viewers to a plethora of inventive, cute, and heartwarming shows. The sub-genre eventually takes all mainstream media by storm.
At the heart of these kinds of shows is a love story. Like in Dulu’s feature, the audience follows the love story of two people. It chronicles how they started and what they do to overcome challenges. It is like any other romantic films. It is about acceptance.
“The Boy Foretold by the Stars”, tells a sublime story that centers around the concept of destiny and chance. Other narratives already used this idea to exhaustion, but the film still wholly embraced it. Unfazed by what the end product would be.
What transpires is a constellated portrayal of genuine love, pieced all together by the LGBTQIA+ community.
The message is simple and straightforward: love is love.
“The Boy Foretold by the Stars” is so carefully written that it radiates nothing but pure and sincere emotions. It offends no ideas or belief; it instead celebrates its own essence, which is beautiful in its unique way.
The movie will not be this good, of course, without all of The Boy Foretold by the Stars cast. Especially, Adrian Lindayag and Keann Johnson. Both actors are nothing but spectacular; they are like luminous stellar explosions together, radiating all sorts of colors through the screen. There is nothing more perfect than the chemistry of both actors.
In summary, “The Boy Foretold by the Stars” shines as a brave portrayal of love. It encapsulates the idea that love is universal. It is not only meant for those of the opposite sex. It is for everybody to experience. Whether what color you are in the spectrum, you can love. There is nothing wrong with loving anyone.
The Boy Foretold by the Stars full movie is not yet available to any streaming platform.
