Deep Cover — Movie Review

Deep Cover follows a group of improv comedians who are unexpectedly recruited by a police officer (Sean Bean) to infiltrate a dangerous drug gang.

Leading the team is Kat Boyles (Bryce Dallas Howard). She’s a struggling stand-up comedian who also teaches improv on the side. Joining her is Marlon Swift (Orlando Bloom), an aspiring dramatic actor and one of Kat’s improv students. Completing the trio is Hugh (Nick Mohammed), a socially awkward IT worker who gets pulled into the mission despite his poor improv skill.

At first, everything goes surprisingly well. Using their skills, the trio manages to earn the trust of the drug lord, Fly (Paddy Considine). Their improvisational talents keep their cover believable, and for a moment, it seems like the mission might actually succeed.

But things quickly spiral out of control.

Suspicion starts to build and Fly begins questioning their identities. To make matters worse, the police seem oddly uninformed by the operation, leaving the trio out in the cold with no backup.

Now trapped in a dangerous game and with their lives on the line, the three have no choice but to rely on what they know best: improv.

In My Mother's Skin: Movie Review

Kenneth Dagatan’s folk horror movie shows the violence and oppression caused by war through the eyes of an innocent child.

It’s the end of World War II. Aldo (Arnold Reyes) and his family live in peace in a country mansion, away from all the fighting. Until one day, a man named Antonio (Ronnie Lazaro) shows up with a group of Japanese soldiers. There are rumors that the family is hiding Japanese gold, and they’re willing to do everything to get it. Aldo believes that things will turn for the worse for his family if they don't get Antonio's gold, so he leaves his family behind to ask the Americans for help.

As soon as Aldo leaves, things do get worse, but not because of Antonio. Ligaya (Beauty Gonzales), the family matriarch, suddenly got sick with an unknown illness, prompting Tala (Felicity Kyle Napuli) and Bayani (James Mavie Estrella), the couple's children, to look for help. But what they found instead were dead bodies and a kind-looking, Cicada-like fairy (Jasmine Curtis-Smith) that can apparently grant wishes.

Cinderella

Camila Cabello stars as Ella in this retelling of a fairytale classic, directed by Kay Cannon.

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Ella (Cabello). Her parents died when she was young, so she now lives with her cruel stepmother, Vivian (Idina Menzel), and two stepsisters, Malvolia (Maddie Baillio) and Narissa (Charlotte Spencer), who treat her like a servant. Because of the cinder that always gets on her face, they mock her by calling her Cinderella.

Despite their viciousness, the young girl is adamant about opening her own shop. So she makes gorgeous outfits in her basement room with her three adorable companion rats.

One day, during the guard-changing ritual, Prince Robert (Nicholas Galitzine) noticed Ella's beauty and fell in love with her right away.

The next day, dressed as a commoner, the Prince goes to the market and finds Ella trying to sell her dress, which he buys from her. He then invites her to an upcoming party, promising to introduce her to people from all over the world to whom she might sell her dresses.

However, by the time Ella is ready to attend the ball, her stepmother has destroyed her dress. With no suitable clothes left to wear, a magical butterfly (Billy Porter) arrives out of nowhere to assist her.

The Tomorrow War

Chris Pratt gets drafted to fight in a future battle in which his capacity to confront his past will determine humanity's fate.

Chris McKay (The LEGO Batman Movie) marks his live action directorial debut with this high concept science-fiction film starring Chris Pratt.

“The Tomorrow War” follows the family-man Dan Forester (Chris Pratt), a former Green Beret who is now a Biology teacher.

One day, while watching the World Cup, soldiers from the year 2051 appeared from nowhere to warn the people about an incoming alien invasion. They said that in their time, humanity is on the verge of extinction due to some species they call "Whitespikes". An aggressive tentacled creature that likes to eat human flesh.

As a result, all the world's forces unite to help the people of the future. However, all the armies they dispatched were annihilated in weeks, triggering a worldwide draft.

Shortly afterward, Dan receives a notification that he has been drafted to fight the war. But in a major twist, his involvement in the war is not a coincidence. It actually means more than what he expects.

One Night in Miami

The day is February 25, 1964.

Underdog boxer Cassius Clay (Eli Goree) wins the title match against the champion, Sonny Liston (Aaron D. Alexander). "I'm the champion of the world!" he announces with pride and anger as he rallies the crowd.

After winning the fight, Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir) invited him for an afterparty. Together with NFL player Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge), and soul singer Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.), they arrived at the flat. It turns out that this is not an ordinary party and they are the only ones invited.

Malcolm X wants to discuss social issues surrounding their community, and he wants them to join the right side. The 1960s is a year of many injustices towards black people, and he is asking them to stand up against it.

However, not everyone is on board with this sudden request. Sam, Jim, and Cassius hold many sentiments towards the whole Civil Movement. Some of it is against their community, though. But they are all still willing to share a piece of it.

John Wick: A Review

After his wife died of a terminal illness, John Wick (Keanu Reeves) retired from assassination and moved to an isolated home. Wick received a beagle dog named Daisy a few days after her death as a farewell gift from her wife. They lived in harmony together. This peace, however, was disrupted one night by a group of Russian gangsters led by Iosef Tarasov (Alfie Allen). They beat up John Wick, stole his 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 and murdered his dog.

Horrified and upset by this, John Wick is forced to come back to ask for the payment from what was taken. It turns out he’s not just an ordinary assassin; he’s the most terrifying person in the world. The so-called Baba Yaga

The Witch: Movie Review

There's a witch in the family.

When William (Ralph Ineson) and his family got banished from the Puritan Plymouth Colony because of disputes over beliefs, they were forced to settle on a farm near the woods. Little do they know that they'll encounter forces of evil in that place that will tear their family apart.

It all started when baby Samuel abruptly disappeared while playing peekaboo with his sister, Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy). They all think that it was a witch that abducted him, but they don't really know for sure. The problems didn't stop there. Winter is coming, and they don't have enough food to survive the harsh weather. William and Katherine's (Kate Dickie) other son, Caleb (Harvey Scrimshaw), also got lost in the wood, and their prized Silver Cup disappeared.

Are these God's punishments for them? Or is there something malevolent in the woods that's haunting them?
