Joker: Movie Review

Madness has a face.

Struggling comedian Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) just wants to experience joy and give joy, but Gotham just doesn't give a damn about what he wants.

So Arthur finds himself slowly going crazy in a society run by powerful moguls, opportunistic rich people, and a system always siding with the wealthy.

Todd Philips's Joker is a no-joke character study of the Prince of Madness. In this original story, we get to see the slow descent of Arthur or The Joker as he navigates the crime-filled Gotham.

What makes the movie impactful is how relatable Joaquin's character is. He's not a schemer but an accidental idol who so happens to be in constant battle internally for his sanity. He's good-natured, and at the beginning of the film, you'll empathize with him. You'll rationalize his motives and understand the pain he's gone through. He's the antagonist and the protagonist of the story. A human being, and that's what separates him from other jokers which are clearly fiction.

This version of Joker proved that Phoenix's talent is limitless. If you partner him up with an award-winning director, like Phillips, you'll have a masterpiece. There are a lot of things that elevate the quality of this film, from the sound design to the cinematography and the script. "Joker" is the culmination of all that is right and perfect.

To conclude, "Joker" proved that DC can get it right. They just need a clear of vision of what they want to do with their characters.
